Implantology dental implants
A dental implant is an artificial root, usually made of titanium, placed in the jawbone to replace a missing tooth. A crown, bridge or denture is then fixed on the implant.
The Studio de Zâmbete team includes a specialist in dento-alveolar surgery, Dr. Mihai Handîc.
When a dental implant may be recommended
- A single missing tooth
- Several adjacent missing teeth
- All teeth missing in one arch – a fixed restoration or an implant-supported denture
- An unstable removable denture
Stages of implant treatment
- 1Consultation, clinical assessment and radiological investigations, such as a dental CT scan
- 2Treatment planning
- 3Placing the implant under local anaesthesia
- 4Healing period while the implant integrates with the bone
- 5Making the final prosthetic restoration on the implant
What if there is not enough bone
If the bone has resorbed after tooth loss, the doctor may recommend bone grafting (bone regeneration) or a sinus lift to create the conditions needed for the implant. Whether these procedures are needed is decided after the assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Does implant placement hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia. Afterwards you may feel some discomfort and mild swelling, which usually improve within a few days if you follow the doctor's advice.
Are there contraindications for dental implants?
Some general conditions, treatments or habits, such as smoking, can affect the treatment. That is why the doctor assesses your general health and medical history before the implant.
How long does implant treatment take?
It depends on the bone quality, any additional procedures and the type of prosthetic restoration. The doctor will explain the stages and the estimated duration after the consultation.
The information on this page is general and does not replace a consultation. The treatment plan is decided by the doctor after an examination.
